Take an easy stroll along the wooden boardwalk towards the lighthouse, with occasional stops for the kids to explore the many rock pools along the way.

Kommetjie beach holidayThe lighthouse in Kommetjie, called Slangkop (Afrikaans for ‘snake head’) has been burning on the shores of the Atlantic since 1917, warning ships about the rocky coastline. Book a guided tour of this beacon, one of South Africa’s oldest lighthouses. The lighthouse keeper will take you up the internal spiral staircase all the way to the top with its panoramic views.

Head back along the boardwalk and appreciate the view of Table Mountain from a different angle. Sink back into the welcoming comfort of your holiday home and savour the luxury of long days ahead… of Kommetjie time.

Seven Reasons Why Cape Town is the Best City to Visit

Voted best city to visit in the world (for the 7th consecutive year!) by Telegraph readers, Cape Town has everything to offer for a fantastic holiday for you and your family.

Cape Town City

With its museums, art galleries, planetarium, green parks, heritage buildings and café culture, this city cradled in the arms of Table Mountain, is worth setting aside a couple of days to explore.

Restaurants

Cape Town’s reputation as a gourmet foodie destination is growing, with award-winning restaurants in the winelands and in the humming, cosmopolitan streets below the big mountain waiting to tempt your palate.

Penguins

Head down to Boulders beach and watch these unique creatures waddle about comically on land. But don’t giggle too loudly, because their grace in the water will astound you, as they speed past you like black and white darts.

The V&A Waterfront

Where the city meets the sea, this magnificent harbour development with its awe-inspiring Table Mountain backdrop, will bowl you over. After a day here, you’ll struggle to gather everyone together to herd them back to your holiday villa.

Whether you want to take a long walk on the beach, build sandcastles with the kids, catch the next swell on your surfboard, people-watch, or just sit on a bench with an ice cream and watch the waves, there is a beach here with your name on it.

Kirstenbosch Gardens

You will be swept away by the breathtaking grandeur of the Kirstenbosch Gardens, one of the great botanic gardens of the world. Take a stroll, go on a hike or just lounge on the lawns and absorb the peaceful beauty.
