Seven Reasons Why Cape Town is the Best City to Visit

Voted best city to visit in the world (for the 7th consecutive year!) by Telegraph readers, Cape Town has everything to offer for a fantastic holiday for you and your family.

Cape Town City

With its museums, art galleries, planetarium, green parks, heritage buildings and café culture, this city cradled in the arms of Table Mountain, is worth setting aside a couple of days to explore.

Restaurants

Cape Town’s reputation as a gourmet foodie destination is growing, with award-winning restaurants in the winelands and in the humming, cosmopolitan streets below the big mountain waiting to tempt your palate.

Penguins

Head down to Boulders beach and watch these unique creatures waddle about comically on land. But don’t giggle too loudly, because their grace in the water will astound you, as they speed past you like black and white darts.

The V&A Waterfront

Where the city meets the sea, this magnificent harbour development with its awe-inspiring Table Mountain backdrop, will bowl you over. There is something for everyone here, from fine dining to glamorous shopping, the Two Oceans Aquarium, a plethora of activities for kids and a selection of sunset cruises. After a day here, you’ll struggle to gather everyone together to herd them back to your holiday villa.

Beaches

Cape Town is bordered by the Indian and Atlantic Oceans so there is a wide selection of pristine beaches to choose from. Whether you want to take a long walk on the beach, build sandcastles with the kids, catch the next swell on your surfboard, people-watch, or just sit on a bench with an ice cream and watch the waves, there is a beach here with your name on it.

Kirstenbosch Gardens

You will be swept away by the breathtaking grandeur of the Kirstenbosch Gardens, one of the great botanic gardens of the world. Take a stroll, go on a hike or just lounge on the lawns and absorb the peaceful beauty.

Cape Villa Collection

And best of all, after a long day exploring, you can come home to one of our gorgeous villas. Here you can kick off your shoes, pour a long, cool drink of something and savour the view while you wait for the braai to heat up.

The Bay House: Inside Scoop

There is only one … The Bay House. And behind this gorgeous home are two lovely people: Stuart and Jacky Simmonds.

The story of how they found The Bay House is filled with synchronicity. Last year, Stuart and Jacky were house hunting in Kommetjie and drove past a For Sale house which piqued their interest, so they went in to have a look. They were swept away by the spectacular views this home offered. With a growing feeling of déja vu, the couple realised that they’d enjoyed a very festive New Year’s Eve in this very house in the 80’s. The fact that it was now 31st December, decades later, added to the feeling that this house was meant to be theirs.

Then followed a year of renovations and refurbishments, and they’re thrilled with what has been achieved. In typical self-deprecating fashion, Stuart says the only décor decision he was allowed to weigh in on was the selection of the large TV screen for the sumptuously cosy TV lounge.

Stuart is an English cricketer whose entertaining autobiography Watching With My Heroes, was published to great acclaim in 2017. On the bookshelf of The Bay House you’ll find Stuart’s series of children’s books, Hannah the Spanner. These are based on stories he told his two daughters, Hannah and Lucy, when they were small. He’d always promised to turn these tales into books one day, and this year, with the release of seven titles in the series, he’s been true to his word. Best of all, he presented his daughter Hannah, the series’ namesake, with the published books on her 21st birthday. She burst into tears when she opened the present.

Treat yourself to a luxurious getaway in this gorgeous holiday home, and – if you can tear your eyes away from the glorious views – set aside some time to read Stuart’s books. (click here)
